BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!
my honey seriously rocked this birthday! he always does an awesome job of making me feel special and loved, but this year i felt especially spoiled. on my birthday eve, he took me out on a date to my favorite restaurant {carrabba's, yum!} where the steak marsala and garlic mashed potatoes made baby sister and i happier than any other present possibly could {when i'm pregnant, the way to my heart is through food. absolutely.} AND then after that really wonderful dinner that made me fall in love with him all over again, he took me to sephora and let me splurge to my heart's content.
IT WAS AWESOME.
one of my top ten favorite date nights ever, for sure. we laughed and ate and talked and it felt so good, we were so connected and happy, just the two of us. mmm, i love him so much.

on my birthday morning, i opened a few presents, my boys took me out to brunch {more delicious food!}, and then we drove an hour north for a weekend cabin getaway with friends, which was heavenly enough to warrant it's own post {up next!}. we had a BLAST and it was one of my favorite birthdays of all time, seriously. thanks babe for making my whole weekend SO MUCH FUN, i adore you! xoxo

UP TO

Monday, September 29
nana {aka my wonderful mother and best friend!} is in town playing with us this week and it has been SO MUCH FUN. too much fun to spend a lot of time at the computer, in fact. but, while i have a minute, here is what we've been up to this week:

-now that pretty much all the boxes are unpacked, and things are settling down, its starting to feel more like home. i haven't hung half of the pictures i have, but that's my next project. i finally remembered to have my mom snap a picture of us in front of our new place, and i'm excited to see how our family grows and changes while we live here.

-my iphone updated to the new operating system and brought along with it EMOJIS, right there on my little keyboard. you guys, i've always been so puzzled about emojis. where do people get them/find them? are there an infinite amount of them or a select few to choose from? who makes them? what's the point of them? i've always avoided them because i didn't know how to use/find them and i thought they were seriously silly, but now they're right here on my phone and i can't resist. i use emojis now, people! {albeit sparingly} it's like i don't even know who i am anymore.

-thanks to the best nana in the world, luc has laughed harder and been read to this week more than he has in a long time. those two are little peas in a pod, and i love watching them together. and i don't know what i'm going to do when she leaves tonight!

-also thanks to the best nana in the world, baby sister has a closet full of clothes, and an ever growing pile of headbands and bows. she is going to be the cutest, best dressed little girl in the state.

-we set up luc's new toddler bed {cue the tears for mama, i can't believe my baby is so grown up already!} and it has been a hit! i know, knock on wood, but it hasn't been a difficult transition at all. the first night he took almost an hour to fall asleep because he was so excited about his new mater sheets and he wouldn't stop talking about them and his 'big bed!' but since then, it's been a breeze. he has yet to get out of bed- NOT ONCE- which was my biggest worry. even in the morning when he wakes up, he lays in bed and yells 'mommom!' until i come in, and then he greets me with a big, happy 'HI!' and immediately asks 'out?' to get out of bed. i did not teach him this, i have no idea where he got this idea that he has to ask for permission before he gets out of bed, but i am definitely not going to say anything!

-my mom and i found the most amazing soup at costco and we've eaten it everyday this week. the chicken tortilla and tomato basil are both to die for. add my mom's grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato and avocado, and i'm in food heaven. i'll probably be living on this for the rest of this pregnancy, since good-sounding food is still hard to come by.

-we took nana to the pool, shopping, out for ice cream, and to numerous splash pads while she's been here. she's a good sport- if luc is having fun, than she's having fun. she gets in there and splashes and plays to his heart's content, and he adores her for it.

-thanks to my mom's generosity, orlando and i got a rare and much-needed date night and it was AWESOME. we were as giddy as kids in a candy store- and after dinner and a movie, we actually did go to this huge candy store and splurge on a few treats. {baby girl was in heaven!} it was so fun, and it felt so good to be just us two for a few hours, and to remember why we like each other so much.

and now, pictures!

family date night

Tuesday, May 14
i love date night with orlando more then just about anything. i love having him all to myself for a few hours, feeling like newlyweds again, just me and my best friend doing something fun together.
but man, family date night is climbing the charts, and fast. to me, there's just something so happy about being out with my boys, on a date as a little family of three.

i mean, look at these faces! who could resist?!

to do in cleveland: Penn Station

Tuesday, March 12
if you're ever in cleveland {or almost anywhere on the east coast, really} make sure you stop at penn station and try their philly cheesesteak sub. it is melted heaven on bread {ohh the grilled onions! oh the CHEESE!} and you'll crave it for the rest of your days. also the fresh french fries {like potatoes sliced when you order, fresh} and the hand-squeezed lemonade are both to die for, so get the whole meal.

you don't have to thank me, just close your eyes and eat it slow.

also, it helps to have a couple of super handsome lunch dates
LUCKY ME!

date night is back

Sunday, February 17
dinner at carrabba's + ice cream + 'when we're rich' window shopping
date night is back, baby!
i'm falling in love all over again.

to do in cleveland: east coast fall

Sunday, October 21

we went on a little family adventure saturday to try and find that gorgeous east coast fall we have heard so much about.
{last fall i was in my first trimester and i slept through the entire season}
orlando plays disc golf at this park and he declared it the perfect fall place, so off we went. he was right, it was amazing. the colors were incredible, i've never seen anything like it.

east coast fall, you are just as gorgeous as ever.

GRACIAS COLUMBUS

Sunday, October 14
thank you sir!
without your wonderful monday holiday, i would have missed out on a delightful lunch date with my two favorite boys

celebrating with pina coladas

Monday, July 23

to celebrate luc's one month birthday, we went out on a date to our favorite place. carrabba's was where we ate on our very first date ever, and we have loved it since. luc was a gem, he slept through it all, so we got to enjoy a little us time, which is an incredibly precious commodity these days. just us and a couple of piña coladas, celebrating one month of mostly successful parenthood. our hardest-earned date night yet!

like when we were dating

Sunday, April 15
saturday night, orlando and i stayed up til after 1am watching music videos on youtube. it was hilarious and silly and i felt a little like when we were dating and we had limitless energy and could stay up all night just to be with each other. and that felt really good.

this video started it all... {it's a MUST see!}

buona notte!

Saturday, March 24
{italian: good night!}

pizza was calling to my hungry soul so we headed to little italy for date night this week.
the cream puffs were so fluffy.
the night was so gorgeous.
the stracciatella {shaved chocolate} gelato was out of this world and three scoops later, this mama and baby boy were in heaven.
did you know little italy was heaven?

well now you know.

there's not much more we love celebrating then each other, so valentine's day is the perfect excuse to slip in an extra date night and just enjoy each other and being married and in love.

this is us, lately

Sunday, January 29
- my christmas decorations are still up. at this point i'm debating whether i should keep trying {and failing} to squeeze in time to take them down, or just give up and leave them until we move in may...

- i spoke in our new singles branch today. it went ok, though i was a bit distracted by the baby kicking in my gut the entire time. i just want to stop and feel him everytime, but you can't exactly stop your talk in the middle to stare at your belly for ten minutes. people might think you're strange.

- orlando is adjusting to all the changes and responsibility wonderfully- he has become {in just one week!} really good at balancing school and family and church and friends and i'm quite impressed.

- for date night friday, orlando surprised me with dinner at a little mexican place called 'el jalapeno' and oh. my. goodness. it was the best mexican food i've had in months. i almost cried, i was so happy to really be eating good mexican food after a sad, seven month drought. we are probably going to make that our monthly date night out from now on, it was that good.

- the weather here is awful. cold and windy and gray, day after day. i cannot wait for spring to start showing her pretty face. if it were up to me, we would probably just skip february all together.

- i'm coming to utah at the end of march for a quick weekend visit and i'm really excited to show off this baby bump and see friends and family. sigh. utah, i miss you!

- we have started looking for a place to move into in may, and yesterday we toured the most awesome retro house i've ever seen. brown + cream + gold sparkles in the kitchen, a completely {ceiling to floor} turquoise bathroom, camel brown carpet, and a few really classic light fixtures to tie it all together. actually, i kind of loved it and all it's outdated charm. if they're willing to hold it for us until may, i would totally embrace the vintage and live there in a heartbeat. we'll see, we have lots of looking left to do, but it's high on my list of favorites for sure.

- i'll be 21 weeks along in this pregnancy tomorrow, and i'm feeling great so far. i'm equal parts very impatient for june and incredibly glad we have a few more months to get ready.

- baby boy has a very regular schedule. he starts kicking and rolling around 1pm and keeps it up pretty continually until around 9 or 10pm when i fall asleep. it's still pretty soft, so orlando hasn't been able to feel him yet, but i think he recognizes his daddy's voice cause he always kicks when orlando talks to him.

- i feel so connected to him, it's crazy. the other day, he hadn't kicked me all day and it was almost 4pm and i was getting a little worried because he's usually so constant. so i told him {in my head. i try not to talk to him out loud at work so as to not appear crazy} to kick me so i'd know he was ok and thirty seconds later, bump, he kicked me. i love it. i feel like we have this secret way of communicating, like he already knows me and i know him. have i mentioned that being pregnant is the best?

- i have been so sore the past week and a half. my hips are sore, my abs are sore, my thighs are sore- probably from all the stretching and expanding my body is doing to make room for this growing boy. i feel like i ran a marathon- all the time.

- i've been practicing my hypnobirthing relaxing daily and i love love love it. i once had a yoga class at byu and my favorite part was always the shavasana {the breathing and relaxation} at the end of the workout. that's exactly what hypnobirthing feels like to me. i'm so relaxed that i could fall asleep, but i don't because it feels so good to stay awake and just... be. i can't think of a better way to say it. i hope when it comes to birthing, i can really get into the relaxation state because it would be awesome to labor like that i think.

- most of my cravings are gone, except that i want mexican food all day, everyday. too bad we don't still live in san diego, that would have been perfection.

have i mentioned i love date night?

Tuesday, January 24

even when i lose at trains, it's still my favorite night of the week.

the 12 days of CHRISTmas: day 3

Friday, December 16
can you believe christmas is in 9 days?!?!  i cannot. crazy how it snuck up on me this year. we have family coming into town on sunday to stay with us and i haven't even started getting the house ready... good thing tomorrow is saturday!

day 3
write a note to someone who could use a little pick-me-up
for our third day of CHRISTmas{after a very fun, very free date night to see the new sherlock holmes movie- loved it!} we decided to write notes to a few people we knew could use some sunshine in their mailbox. it was nice to sit down together and be thoughtful about those we care for, to think about how we can help, and with a few lines of encouragement, pass on our love and support. this is definitely a habit i need to use year round to focus more on others instead of myself.

deck the halls

Friday, November 11
every year, we get way too excited for christmas to wait til after thanksgiving to deck the halls. {plus it only adds to the festive-ness of thanksgiving, don't you think?}

so tonight for date night, we went out for our yearly ritual of picking out a new ornament for our tree and then we came home and decked our place out to the nines.

best date night ever.

ornament year one

ornament year two

ornament year three

ornament year four

hope your friday night was just as festive!
